F/W 1991 Romeo Gigli midnight blue edelweiss smocking velvet coat

A rare midnight blue velvet coat by Romeo Gigli from his Fall-Winter 1991 collection. Gigli commissioned textile designer Nigel Atkinson to create the Edelweiss Smocking velvet in this coat. Examples from this collaboration are part of the V&A and FIT collections.
The coat has a wide, boxy cut. It features a dramatic collar and drop shoulders. It envelopes the shoulders, yet one can move in it with ease. There is a vent on the center back. The textured velvet fabric reflects light beautifully. The coat fastens in the front with three buttons and is fully lined in satin.

Marked size IT44. Will fit sizes small to extra large.

69% rayon, 18% cotton, 8% silk, 5% other fibres; 100% rayon lining

Made in Italy

Very good condition with light signs of wear.
