A rare early Roberto Cavalli suede set from the 1970s. It features laser cut details on the jacket and skirt and gold metallic thread stitching on parts of the trim. The jacket has padded shoulders and comes with a suede tie belt, which is attached by a belt loops on each side. The butterfly motif on the back of the jacket has been transfer printed onto the leather by a special method, which Cavalli was known for at the time. The jacket is fastened by a hook and eyelet closure in the center front. The skirt sits high on the waist and is flared. It fastens by a concealed zipper and gold toned button, there is also a concealed button on the inner side. The set is made of a black suede, which feels ultra soft.
In the late 1960s, Cavalli, working for Mario Valentino, discovered a way to apply silk printing processes to leather, that appear on creations of Valentino, Pierre Cardin and Hermès. In 1973 Roberto Cavalli opened his first boutique 'Limbo' in Saint Tropez, where he sold his bohemian fashion and printed leather pieces.
